Friday night I met up with a friend at Assiniboine park. We were going to go rollerblading and then for some ice cream. After scheduling our girl's night, I was surprised with a new camera! I figured that I would take it for its first outing and try out some of the settings. There's a feeling of excitement and nervousness when playing with a new toy. Everything is shiny, new and exciting. I got to the park a little before my friend so I thought I would try my first landscape shot. This is the Pavillion Gallery, home of Terrace 55. It's also where my husband and I were married. Can you see where the Pavillion sign is on the front of the building? That lettering is actually on the side of a balcony, overlooking the park. Inside that balcony, there is an art gallery. Our ceremony took place right behind those windows, with the sun filtering in, warm and embracing.

M arrived at the park as I was taking this shot, standing in the middle of the road. We went rollerblading for a while, chatting and catching up, and when the sun began to descend from it's high point in the sky, we switched back into our shoes and went for a walk. Destination: ice cream. Journey: photo-op.
The rose garden in the park was on the way to Sargent Sundae so we stopped at some beautiful, richly coloured flowers. Conveniently, there is a setting on my camera in the shape of a flower, for very close-ups of just that. So, here are the results...

Another flower. Purple. Yup, I really know my flower names. Purplicus Pointicus? |
After many failed attempts and strange looks from other people enjoying the part as I chased bee after bee with my camera, we came across this puffy sturdy looking blooms that were just filled with bumblebees. My friend M has likely never seen me so excited! "Bees! Bees! They're EVERYWHERE!!" I was shrieking as I brought my lens up practically against their furry little bodies, snapping away. Giddy as a pig in mud, I was. Here's one of the shots. I won't go overboard and post the other 10 million of them. I exaggerate. Maybe 10 photos. But still.

The next day, we went to my in laws to help with a move. Everyone had breakfast first and I thought a food shot was in order. My mother-in-law had made herself scrambled eggs with cheddar cheese and it was steaming hot on the table, in bright, natural light. My pictures taken in natural light seem to be turning out better than the ones under "artificial" light. I'll have to do more reading on how to get the results that I want.

Mrs.B wasn't getting away so easily. "Finally," I thought, "I can get a clear shot of our happy, fat little hippo!" Sure enough, the shutter speed is blink-of-an-eye fast and she is no longer a match for my new camera!
